Bourne Pitchers to make Appearance at All-Star Game

In the beginning of June the Bourne baseball players shed each of their collegiate jerseys in favor of a new red and white Braves jersey, and that's the jersey that three Braves pitchers will be representing at the 48th annual All-Star game Wednesday.
Lefty Grayson Garvin (Vanderbilt), and right-handed pitchers RJ Alvarez (Florida Atlantic) and Tony Zych (Louisville) were named to the Cape's elite Western Division team, which will be coached by Bourne's own Harvey Shapiro.
"All three of them have been fantastic all summer," Braves pitching coach Josh MacDonald said. "Grayson may arguably be the best starter in the league. He had a rough one inning for us but ever since then it seems like no one can hit him."
Garvin is 4-0 in five games started and boasts a 0.61 ERA in 29.2 innings pitched. He's allowed only two earned runs and has the third highest number of strikeouts - 28 - on the team behind Mike Morin (North Carolina) and Will Jolin (UConn).
"This is something that I've worked towards and it feels good to be recognized for throwing well this summer," Garvin said. "I'm excited to just go out there and throw at Fenway in front of a lot of people."
Last summer Garvin went 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA as a relief pitcher with the Falmouth Commodores.
Alvarez is 2-2 with a .96 ERA, allowing only two earned runs in 18.2 innings pitched. This is his first summer playing for the Cape Cod Baseball league.
Zych leads the league with nine saved games and hasn't allowed a run in 15.1 innings pitched.
"They all deserve it," MacDonald said. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these guys and we've been very lucky to have a great pitching staff this summer."
The All-Star game begins at 7:05 p.m. at Fenway Park, general admission tickets are on sale for each.
