A Pitcher Re-Bourne

The Cape Cod Baseball league is normally a once in a lifetime opportunity, making pitcher Grayson Garvin’s second stint in the league even more impressive.
Last season with the Falmouth Commodores Garvin only pitched 16.1 innings, posting a 3.86 earned run average. Although Garvin struggled, he learned from the experience.
“Coming up here last year was a huge turning point for me as far as gaining the confidence to know that I can make those pitches here, and execute them like I do against college hitters,” said Garvin.
Fast forward to this season, the left handed pitcher out of Vanderbilt is taking the league by storm with a 3-0 record and a 0.79 earned run average for the Bourne Braves. It was not clear however which team Garvin would pitch for following his one year tenure with Falmouth.
“Coach Shapiro called me in the winter saying that Grayson was available to us, and I said I’d love to have him. We loved to have the nice lefty out of the pen, and we got a lot more than we bargained for,“ said pitching coach Josh Macdonald
Originally thought to be a lefty out of the bullpen, Garvin seems to be settling into the role of ace, and what better team to do it for than the defending champion Braves.
“I’m very happy to be in Bourne, and also happy that our team is doing well. I’m just trying to go out there and give our team the best chance to win,” said Garvin.
Garvin is doing more than just winning games for the Braves, he is giving them what teams dream of from starting pitchers, quality innings.
“Getting length out of him is huge for us. What length does for us is keep those top notch arms constantly available for us out in the bullpen, especially when you have to play a few games in a row,” said Macdonald
The Braves hope Garvin will continue his success as they try to defend their 2010 championship, and all signs indicate that he will.
“He looks mature and is super confident. He goes out there, throws three pitches for strikes and has a really good idea of what to do. When he gets into a rhythm it’s almost like child’s play out there,” said Macdonald.
