Bourne Dominates Game 2, Advances to Final Round
Aug 9, 2009
Author: Kristen Balboni, Bourne Braves Intern

On Sunday, the Braves capitalized on their first win by beating Orleans 8-0 and securing a spot in the championship.

Starting RHP Seth Maness had yet another exceptional outing for the Braves, allowing no runs in six innings. He had no walks, and although the scoreboard claimed he allowed two hits, the second on-base looked like it was due to an E3.

A Kyle Roller single in the third inning put the Braves on the board. The fourth and fifth innings went quickly, with both Maness and Orleans starter Jimmy Reyes working efficiently from the mound.
LePage led off the sixth with a homerun to left field. The homer was LePage's first of the season, and couldn't have come at a more important time for the team.

After giving up the homerun, Reyes hit Roller with a pitch then allowed a Stefen Romero single. Reyes left the game and RHP Cole Cook took the mound in relief. Cook couldn't lock it up for Orleans, and gave up an RBI single to Ben Klafczynski. The Braves led 3-0 after six innings.

Orleans tried yet another reliever, Brock Strassi, in the seventh. Kyle Roller immediately hit an RBI sacrifice fly, and LePage scored right after on an error. Strassi was replaced after facing only two batters. RHP Hiserman was sent out to try to dam the flood of Braves runs, but no such luck. The Braves scored one more run on a Romero single before the top of the seventh ended.

With a 6-0 lead, RHP Justin Poovey relieved Maness in the bottom of the inning. Poovey continued the assault on Orleans batters, and had four strikeouts in two innings pitched.

Zach MacPhee scored the team another run in the eighth. And in the ninth, Roller hit a homerun that almost reached the parking lot behind right field. It was Roller's first homer of the postseason and eleventh overall. The Braves brought in closer Kevin Munson to finish off Orleans in the bottom ninth, which he did with ease.

Tonight's win solidified the Braves spot in the final round of the playoffs. The final round of the playoffs begins Tuesday.
