Bourne MA, get excited. If you turned on Sports Center last night, you probably saw another Brave make magic.
Rookie Justin Maxwell, a fan favorite to many in Bourne was finally called up on September 4th to play for the Nationals.
The 4th round draft pick in 2005 hit (.307) for the Braves in 2003 and had a great glove in center field.
Last night, the bases were loaded for the Maryland Terrapin and he crushed his first major league hit, over the left field wall for a grand slam home run! Pretty incredible for the rook.
John McDonald, whom played for Bourne in 1993, signed a two year contract extension with the Toronto Blue Jays last evening, he celebrated by making a diving stop of a ball at short.
Did anyone witness the Micah Owings show? The former first round pick out for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who had a great bat and glove for the Braves hit two home runs in one game. The young phenom has settled down into the # 3 starter for Arizona and he looks to be a perennial fifteen game winner in the bigs.
Mark DeRosa, who played for the Braves in 1995 has been torching the ball for the Chicago Cubs. The Pennsylvania grad led the Braves in hitting and RBI's during his lone season at the canal city, and he has been hitting .287 with 9 HR and 68 RBI's!
Welcome back Mark Mulder to the big leagues. The star pitcher for St. Louis was hurt all year and finally was able to make his return. Mulder has been hit hard in his several starts. But we all know how good a cutter, sinker and fastball the stud has.
Brandon Inge, David DeJesus, and Kevin Youkilis continue to hit the ball well in the big leagues. Inge played for the Braves for one season in 1996 hits for power for the Tigers. He has fifteen long balls and continues to flash stellar glove over at 3B.
DeJesus is the leadoff hitter for the Royals and is extremely fast on the basepaths. He will be a great player for a long time, but I don't see him surviving in KC.
Youkilis is a hero now in Boston. He's hitting .290 with 80 RBI's and continues to be a force in the field. He hit a huge three run triple in the comeback against Tampa Bay last evening for the Sox and is stapled in as the first baseman of the future for the Sox.
New Braves keep reaching the major every day, just another reason why Bourne produces major league calibar players.
